Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address all parts of the prompt by discussing reasons for the popularity of crime novels and TV shows, and offering an opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive, relying heavily on general statements about thriller elements, high budgets, and attractive actors without deep exploration. For example, the student writes 'many people are prefer to read crime related stories and watching stories due the the action and suspense and also high budget.' The position is stated, but the support lacks depth and structure. The response falls under Band 5 because it addresses the task only partially and the ideas are limited and under-developed, with some awkward phrasing clouding the clarity of the arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay has some basic organisation, utilizing an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and cohesive devices are often mechanical, repetitive, or inaccurate. For instance, transitional phrases like 'To commence with' and 'To conclusion' are used awkwardly. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the long, run-on sentence starting with 'Moreover film makers are spend their big amount of budget...' which clumps multiple ideas together without proper cohesive links. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion fails to guide the reader smoothly. This matches the Band 5 descriptor where there is some organisation but no clear overall progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently impeded by severe word-choice and spelling errors. Examples of inaccurate language include 'voilating paper stuff' (intended to mean crime novels/novels with violence), 'tend' (trend), and 'beacasue'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'suspens', 'budget', and 'producers', but noticeable errors cause frequent difficulty for the reader. The range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, which corresponds to Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is severely restricted. The student attempts complex sentences, but these are almost always faulty and contain frequent grammar errors. Examples include 'mostly individual are prefer read crime related stories', 'film makers are spend their big amount of budget', and 'youngsters are show interest to watch crime tv stories because the producer reveals the hero as good and fit youngster who do action'. Punctuation is also problematic, marked by run-on sentences lacking appropriate conjunctions or full stops. Frequent errors cause difficulty and strain for the reader, placing the performance firmly at Band 4.
