IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In many countries today, crime novels and TV crime dramas are becoming more and more popular. Why do you think these books and TV shows are popular? What is your opinion of crime fiction and TV crime dramas?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, television dramas and books related to crime are gaining popularity. People love to watch TV show are read novels and books which have some serious criminal activities in it. From my viewpoint such TV shows are interesting but some how these things create a bad impact in the mind of the readers or the people watching them. Young kids get so much influenced from such daily soaps and novels in a bad manner.
Watching or reading crime fictions are considered as a good activity to do in your leisure time. You can spend whole day reading such books or novels as they are very interesting. Sometimes few episodes are based on real life events. Such dramas are sometimes worth watching as you can gain knowledge from them and learn how to react in such situation if it happens with you. Moreover youngsters are more interested in such crime related shows and novels rather than watching or reading something else.
However, these creates a bad impact on kids. Their brain is in learning stage. If they watch or see tv serials related to such criminal activities they get influenced from it and learn bad things. I remember when a small kid jumped from the balcony as his mother was not buying him a mobile phone. Later on asking from him he mentioned, that he saw this in a drama where parents get a phone for their kid who was going to jump from the balcony.
To sum up with, watching crime dramas is popular and will keep on increasing. But parents should not allow their young children to watch such TV shows or read books which are crime related for their better upbringing.
