Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the task by discussing reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and giving an opinion, although the development is somewhat repetitive. You state that these stories offer relaxation, create suspense, and teach people how to handle difficult situations. However, the reasons tend to overlap between paragraphs, particularly regarding 'difficult situations' and 'self-defence' which are repeated in the second body paragraph and conclusion. Your opinion is present, but it lacks specific personal examples or depth. To achieve a higher band, ideas should be fully extended with more distinct supporting arguments rather than reiterating similar points about coping with crime and stress.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a clear overall arrangement with an introduction, body paragraphs signaled by transitional markers such as 'To begin with' and 'Apart from this', and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used, though the body paragraphs are somewhat dense and repetitive in content. Cohesive devices are employed, but some linking phrases are awkward or mechanical, such as 'Apart from this' used where an additional supporting point rather than a contrasting one is intended. Referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression between sentences is occasionally hindered by repetitive phrasing and minor structural confusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your main ideas. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, such as 'avaliable' (available), 'lesiure' (leisure), 'spsence' (suspense), 'novals' (novels), 'deracters' (directors), 'wrute' (write), 'made' (make), and 'sences' (sense). Less common lexical items are attempted, but inaccuracies in spelling and collocation prevent the score from reaching a higher band. To improve, you should focus on proofreading your work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes and expand your control of word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempt at subordination and relative clauses, such as '...books which people like to see and read in their lesiure time because it is the best way to get relaxation.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as '...writer and deracters like to wrute and made these kinds of books and shows because it's helps them get name and fame.' Punctuation is generally acceptable, but run-on sentences occasionally occur. These errors can cause some difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar score firmly in the mid-range.
