Student answer (Band 6.0)
It has long been a subject of discussion whether crime novels and TV crime dramas are becoming significantly popular in many countries or not. I think that these books and TV shows are popular because of attractive stories and the feeling of thrill to viewers or readers. In my opinion, these type of acts may prepare an individual to be aware in some circumstances.
To begin with, crime books and TV crime dramas influence poeple both positively and negatively and depends on the information they get from watching or reading these acts. Moreover, most people stay cautious about dangerous acts in real life situations, but some people learn from this acts about how to do crime without being caught. For example, people often try to do things they watch on televisions or while reading book because it is human nature. Hence, crime shows and novels remains popular among people who want to stay aware and cautious.
In contrast, watching crime acts or reading crime novels may influence people negatively because many people may try to commit crime while they believe that stories are real and can be implemented. Furthermore, people who have weak emotional strengh may usually have negative impact of commiting the crime for fun and personal benefits which may result in life sentences or even jail. For example, some people find loop holes from being caught and continue breaking rules and regulations. Therfore, limitations on such television acts should be implemented.
In conclusion, stricter laws and heavy penalties should be implemented on breaking rules or commiting crime to create safer environment for every citizens. On the other hand, age restrictions should be enforced on watching crime shows or purchasing crime novels to prevent involvement of minors in such activities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing why crime fiction is popular and providing an opinion on these media forms. The writer attempts to explain the popularity through the appeal of attractive stories and the feeling of thrill, and offers an opinion regarding awareness and potential negative influences. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on positive and negative impacts lacks fully extended examples, often relying on generalizations such as 'people often try to do things they watch on televisions'. While a clear position is established, the ideas remain basic and could be explored with greater depth and specific real-world illustration to reach a higher band level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division into introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used logically, with the body paragraphs tackling distinct aspects of the prompt (causes of popularity alongside positive impacts, followed by negative influences). Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'To begin with', 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'from this acts' and 'such television acts', where pronoun and noun references lack precision. Nevertheless, logical progression is maintained throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas, but it lacks sophistication and precision. There are several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'poeple' instead of 'people', 'strengh' instead of 'strength', 'loop holes' instead of 'loopholes', and 'Therfore' instead of 'Therefore'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'consequences', 'regulations', and 'penalties', but the overall range is somewhat limited. Repetition of words such as 'crime', 'acts', and 'popular' restricts the lexical score. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they prevent the text from achieving a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like relative clauses ('people who have weak emotional strengh') and conditional-like constructions. However, grammatical errors and awkward phrasing are frequent throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'crime shows and novels remains' and prepositional errors such as 'from being caught' instead of 'to avoid being caught'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but structural inaccuracies are noticeable in sentences such as 'depends on the information they get' (missing a subject). These errors occur regularly but rarely impede the overall comprehension of the message, placing the response solidly at Band 5.5.
