Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, the popularity of TV crime channels and crime novels are increasing rapidly. There are several factors behind this fact. The predominant reason could be because it increases the knowledge of how can someone escape from crime. I believe these crime related fictions and television dramas plays a vital role in the society and such serials should be made more often with updated offences happend recently.
One of the many reasons that why crime novels and dramas are becoming popular day by day is that it makes a significant contribution in broadening the knowledge of individuals towards their safety. We can see an increase in the number of the crime rates all over the world. With the help of such novels and television channels, people can explore that how crime happens and in which ways we can avoid them. For example, countries where these crime related information is popular among public, the survival rate of the victims are much likely to escalate comparing to other nations who do not inform public about safety regulations.
In my opinion, these dramas and novels are undoubtedly crucial not only for the safety of genera public but also plays a significant role in teaching young generation about the outside world offences. These young adults are more interested in watching TV about the crime details rather than listening to some new channels. These kind of channels and novels should be made more often and based on real stories updated with time. For instance, a young girl can learn about her defence in the case of someone trying to rape her late at night. Therefore, having an access to such channels and novels can save someone's live.
In conclusion, the reason behind the popularity of crime channels and novels are becuase it made people realize that this can help them broaden their horizon and can also teach young generation (who are addicted to television shows), how to defence themselves in the case of a danger.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: why crime fiction and TV shows are popular, and the student's personal opinion regarding their role in society. A clear position is maintained throughout, arguing that these media improve safety knowledge and educate young adults. However, some ideas are slightly repetitive and under-developed, particularly the argument regarding how crime shows practically prevent crime. The reasoning tends to over-generalise, asserting that increased exposure directly correlates with higher survival rates without sufficient concrete substantiation. Despite these minor limitations, all parts of the task are covered sufficiently, earning a solid Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is coherent overall with a clear logical progression from the introduction to body paragraphs and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as safety knowledge in paragraph two and the impact on the younger generation in paragraph three. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. For instance, the transition phrases like 'One of the many reasons that why' contain redundant phrasing, and referencing is occasionally imprecise. Paragraph links could be smoother to avoid repetitive sentence openings. Overall cohesion meets the criteria for Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'predominant reason', 'significant contribution', and 'survival rate'. However, there are notable word choice and spelling errors that prevent a higher band, such as 'offences happend recently' (happened), 'generap public' (general), and 'becuase' (because). Less common lexical items are attempted, but minor inaccuracies in collocation and spelling occur throughout the text, placing this response firmly at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar. Examples of complex structures include 'With the help of such novels and television channels, people can explore that how crime happens...' and 'These young adults are more interested in watching...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as direct question word order embedded inside noun clauses ('how can someone escape' and 'that how crime happens'), subject-verb agreement issues ('dramas plays'), and awkward phrasing ('how to defence themselves'). These errors occasionally cause slight strain for the reader, resulting in a Band 5.5.
