IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In many countries today, crime novels and TV crime dramas are becoming more and more popular. Why do you think these books and TV shows are popular? What is your opinion of crime fiction and TV crime dramas?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is rightly said that in many countries today, crime novels and TV crime dramas are becoming more popular and have certainely become the part of every household. According to my observations these books and TV shows have taken a leap as they create a sense of thrill and adrenaline rush in the minds of viewers. They have the capacity to captivate the audience because of the suspense it creates. It often attracts viewer's attention as it is based on some of the true incidents happening around the world.

In my opinion,these crime fiction and TV crime dramas are based on true incidents happening around the corner but not 100% true to the actual incident . They are mostly manipulated and added some more drama and suspense to create a sense of thrill and excitement among the viewers. And the poor viewers get emotionally invested just because some had similar experiences and they often try to co-relate. On the other hand, these crime novels and TV crime dramas are made to grab attention and increase their sales or TRP for which they exaggerate the actual true incident and present more exciting and appealing version infront of the reader or audiences.

I would like conclude it with an examples as I have been a viewer to some of the highest TRP TV crime dramas which used to get broadcast at the Prime time around 8 pm to 9 pm on National TV, and everyone used to wait for those dramas especially my dad. One of the most popular show was CID ( Crime Investigation Department) which used to solve mysteries crime scenes and investigate like team from CBI. It used to be quite engaging and interesting to learn about investigation at higher level and importance of forensic lab reports. I used to get intrigued by everything shown on the TV and at some point I imagined myself as a little undercover agent solving all the mysteries around. One of the other reason,It usually attracts more people because tdifferent from daily soap dramas which have similar context like either love story or family drama. That is why nowadays, its popularity is at the bloom and there are many more dramas which are coming up with similar context and getting good response.
