IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In many countries today, crime novels and TV crime dramas are becoming more and more popular. Why do you think these books and TV shows are popular? What is your opinion of crime fiction and TV crime dramas?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, crime novels and TV crime dramas are becoming increasingly popular in many countries. I believe that these books and TV shows are admired because of their storyline and characters. In my opinion, crime fictions and dramas are more popular particulary among younger generations.
One of the main reasons for increasing popularity of physical books and TV programmes is narration. This is largely because people tend to prefer books and shows with excellent plot. If the books and TV programmes have fascinating play and talented characters, people are more likely to choose those novels or dramas. For instance, a large number of readers in countries like China and Japan chose crime novels that offers intriguing stories. Consequently, it is apparent that content and strong characters play a major role to gain their popularity.
From my perspective, crime fictions and TV dramas includes violence, betrayal and constant danger faced by characters in a play. Such storylines and content create an imaginary events in the minds of young readers. Furthermore, some film-makers and authors offers discounts on their latest shows and novels for students to generate a huge revenue. To illustrate, in the UK, a large number of readers opt to watch crime dramas that delivers strong emotional message. These elements attracts a wide range of audience to watch their TV crime dramas. As a result, crime novels and TV crime shows are well-liked by younger generations.
In conclusion, crime novels and books are becoming increasingly popular due to their storytelling skills and appropriate characters. From my perspective, I tend to think that crime fiction and TV dramas create an emotional impact to attract young readers.
