Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, crime novels and television crime dramas are becoming increasingly popular in many countries. There are several reasons for this trend, especially the excitement and suspense they provide. In my opinion crime friction can be enjoyable and useful form of entertainment.
One important reason for their popularity is that crime stories create suspense and curiosity. Viewers usually want to discover how the case will be solved ans who did the crime. In addition these stories have unexpected twists and strange characters and challenging tasks. Thats why people have these much interest in these stories and they watch till the end. Modren streaming platforms have also made crime dramas easily available, They allow people to watch these dramas whenever they want.
In my view, crime novels and TV dramas have both advantages and disadvantages. On the positive side , they can improve logical thinking because people examine clues and try to solve mysteries themselves. For example, reading a detective novel may encourage a person to compare evidence and predict what will happen next. However, some programmes contain violent and disturbing scenes, which may not suitable for everyone.Furthermore, watching to many episodes have a negative effect on a daily life. Therefore, people should choose suitable content and watch it responsibly.
In conclusion crime novels and TV dramas are popular because they offer suspense , mystery and entertainment. Altough they have some disadvantages as well, I believe they can be an interesting and sometimes educational form of entertainment if people enjoy them in moderation.People should enjoy crime stories in a balanced way.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, exploring both the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and TV dramas and offering a clear personal opinion. The position is maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are extended and supported, such as explaining how suspense and unexpected twists keep viewers engaged until the end, and discussing both the cognitive benefits of examining clues and the drawbacks of violent content. However, there is a tendency to slightly over-generalise in places, and certain supporting points, such as the mention of modern streaming platforms, are presented rather briefly without deep elaboration. Overall, the content covers all the requirements of the task effectively while maintaining a clear focus.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are grouped effectively into four paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs exploring reasons and opinions, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used adequately to guide the reader, such as 'One important reason', 'In addition', 'In my view', and 'On the positive side'. However, referencing and punctuation issues occasionally make the flow slightly mechanical rather than entirely flexible. For example, missing spaces after punctuation marks and slight abruptness in sentence transitions mean that cohesion is sometimes noticeable rather than entirely smooth. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes such as popularity versus personal evaluation.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items related to the topic such as 'suspense', 'unexpected twists', 'logical thinking', and 'detective novel'. There are some word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'crime friction' instead of 'fiction', 'ans' instead of 'and', 'Modren' instead of 'Modern', and 'to many' instead of 'too many'. However, these errors do not impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout. To reach a higher band, the writer would need to demonstrate a wider and more flexible control of less common lexical items with fewer spelling slips and more precise collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including relative clauses and conditional ideas. There is an acceptable level of control over basic structures, but some errors in grammar and punctuation persist. Examples include missing articles or preposition errors such as 'have these much interest', 'watching to many episodes have a negative effect on a daily life' (where subject-verb agreement and article usage are faulty), and minor punctuation oversights like missing spaces after periods. Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, and the meaning of the sentences remains clear. A greater variety of error-free complex structures is needed to move beyond this level.
