Student answer (Band 5.5)
Crime related dramas and stories have become famous worldwide than all other kind of dramas. These type of stories are most famous among people because they enjoy watching violence. This essay will discuss the given argument in detail. However, in my opinion, crime based programs or books must be banned because they can be mislead the youngsters of a country.
One of the significant reasons behind people's attraction towards offensive television shows or books is that they like to watch or read about violent topics, even if they are fictional. Due to the suspense these kind of criminal stories make audience cannot stop themselves to watch it till the end. For instance, CID a famous criminal show is known for the suspense and drama it creates around murder cases and whoever starts watching an episode of it they continue watching it till the killer is found. Therefore, the attraction towards misdeeds is making criminal programs popular in todays world.
As per my perspective, crime based stories should be banned and be replaced with motivational and business related movies or books. As youngsters are the future of a country and if watching crime will be misleading for them. For example, when teenagers watch something with attention it ingrains in their minds and watching or reading criminal stories will eventually make them violent. So, offensive movies or storybooks should be banned for good foreseeable future.
In conclusion, although, fiction crime related books or shows are famous due to suspense and they are interesting to watch. But, in my opinion, it must be replaced with other kind of movies or stories so that the youth will not be misleaded. Also, when teenagers will watch or read something based on successful inspiring stories then they will also start thinking and working towards the goal of their lives rather than being violent and influenced by criminal stories.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing why crime stories are popular and providing a clear, albeit extreme, opinion that they should be banned. However, the development of ideas is uneven. For instance, the first reason provided to explain their popularity—that people simply 'enjoy watching violence'—is somewhat simplistic and under-developed. While a position is presented throughout the text, the arguments lack depth and rely on sweeping generalisations rather than fully extended supporting details. To move to a higher level, the writer would need to explore psychological or sociological factors behind the appeal of crime fiction in greater detail and offer more sophisticated, nuanced support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct sub-topic. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. Transitional phrases like 'Therefore' and 'As per my perspective' are used somewhat repetitively or stiffly, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun reference in 'if watching crime will be misleading for them' where the antecedent is muddled. To achieve a higher standard, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices without relying on formulaic transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'suspense', 'ingrains', and 'foreseeable future'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form that do not impede communication but reveal limitations. Examples include 'crime related dramas', 'they can be mislead' (incorrect verb form), 'criminal stories make audience cannot stop' (awkward phrasing), and the repeated use of 'misleaded' instead of 'misled'. Refining word choices and ensuring correct morphological forms of less common vocabulary are essential steps toward a higher level of lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to vary sentence structures. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, though they rarely impede communication. Examples of grammatical slips include 'These type of stories' (agreement error), 'these kind of criminal stories' (plurality mismatch), 'whoever starts watching... they continue' (awkward structural control), and 'if watching crime will be misleading for them' (incomplete conditional/clause structure). To progress, the writer needs to increase the proportion of error-free complex sentences and exercise tighter control over subject-verb agreement and article usage.
