Student answer (Band 5.5)
To begin with, nowadays in many countries, crime novels and TV crime series are becoming more and more popular. This topic has both merits and demerits. We will discuss this in detail. In my opinion, it is very beneficial for our society to watch crime-based film series and read novels to raise awareness. For instance, in many countries, we see many crimes daily. Moreover, these crimes include robbery, violence, and rape. In addition, in many countries, the most ridiculous crimes are selling drugs to teenagers, playing with their future, and kidnaping the childern. Furthermore, the movie indusrt to more demonstrates and more focus on the daily crime stories to raise individuals' awareness and give them confidence to raise their voices when they see the crime.
On the other hand, these types of stories are detrimental to teenagers' brains and character for the future. For instance, many crimes are based on these types metrial to watching and reading novels. they try to adopt the bad character. Many of our pupils are addicted to watching films, dramas, and reading novels, and make them dangerous people in our society. In addition, there should be an age limit to watch these kinds of series and read novels to protect teenagers' brains and their health.
In conclusion, crime-based TV shows, novels, and series have played a very significant role in modern times. I believe every single person should know what kinds of crime we have in our society and how we can be protected from them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt by discussing reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and providing a personal opinion regarding its societal impact. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. For instance, the points about teenagers adopting bad characters or drugs and kidnapping are presented as sweeping assertions without sufficient elaboration or concrete examples. Furthermore, the meta-commentary phrases such as 'This topic has both merits and demerits. We will discuss this in detail' take up space without adding substantive content to the argument. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to present fully extended ideas with deeper explanations and more specific examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraph divisions separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and repetitive. The writer relies heavily on basic transition markers like 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore' at the start of consecutive sentences, which creates a formulaic flow. Referencing can also be unclear, as seen in sentences like 'many crimes are based on these types metrial to watching and reading novels. they try to adopt the bad character,' where the pronoun reference is ambiguous. Enhancing logical progression and utilizing a wider variety of sophisticated cohesive devices would improve the overall structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'significant role', 'awareness', and 'detrimental', but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling. For example, 'movie indusrt to more demonstrates' contains severe spelling and collocation inaccuracies, and 'types metrial' mixes word forms. Additionally, phrases like 'playing with their future' are too informal for an IELTS task. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical range, ensure accurate word formation, and eliminate spelling mistakes that cause difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent errors in verb forms, articles, and agreement throughout the text, such as 'kidnap the childern', 'eventhough if', and 'what kinds of crime we have'. Punctuation and prepositional usage also show persistent issues, for instance in the phrase 'based on these types metrial to watching'. While communication is generally maintained, these frequent errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader. Incorporating a wider variety of error-free complex sentence structures is essential for progression.
