Student answer (Band 6.0)

It has been observed that crime novels and TV shows are becoming popular in many countries these days due to their engaging nature. There are several reasons for this trend and from my perspective, this trend definetely has some adverse impects on people, especially youngsters. Reasons for this trend and my opinion wit relevent examples and justifications will be elaborated in the forthcoming paragraphs.

The first and foremost reason for the popularity of shows and novels related to crimes is the engaging contents. These dramas and series contain thriller and suspense stories and their engaging nature does not allow people to leave their seats. Additionally, these shows contain extremely violent scenes along with loud BGMs. Therfore, these fiction movies or stoies are becoming popular in youngsters. Besides this, people nowadays find love stories and autobiographies less interesting because of similar context. On the other hand, crime and thriller dramas are hard to predict.

However, I believe that TV shows and books contaning stories related to offenses may have negetive effects on young age groups. By this I mean, this kind of contents have negetive characters and youngsters behave like them in real life after watching movies or dramas. As a result, they believe that doing offrnces are normal. Moreover, they may also develop negetive traits over time after too much expose of this types of movies and behave inappropriately within the society such as bullying in high schools and colleges, breaking rules, street fights and so on.

To conclude the aforementioned discussion, it can be finally commented that although crime novels and televison shows are famous due to their engaing secens and suspense, I believe, this type of content certainly have negetive impects on ypung people when it comes to behave appropriatley within the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both parts of the prompt: you explain popularity through suspense, engaging stories and unpredictability, and you give a clear negative opinion about possible effects on young people. The examples of bullying, rule-breaking and street fights help make your concern concrete. This meets the task well, but the explanation of popularity is more developed than the opinion: the claim that young viewers imitate negative characters is broad and would benefit from a specific example or a clearer explanation of how fiction might influence behaviour. The point about other genres being less interesting is also asserted rather than supported. To strengthen the response, develop each main reason with a brief, relevant illustration and acknowledge that effects may vary among viewers.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining popularity, a paragraph presenting your concern, and a conclusion that restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “Additionally,” “Besides this,” and “To conclude” make the progression easy to follow. However, some linking is mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is not always precise. For example, “Therfore” introduces violent scenes as a reason for popularity, but the connection to young viewers is not fully explained. The conclusion also repeats the introduction rather than drawing the reasons together. Use fewer formulaic transitions and make links between claims explicit; clearer reference to “these programmes” or “such portrayals” would also help the reader follow the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “thriller,” “suspense,” “unpredictable,” “offenses,” and “traits,” and the intended meaning is generally recoverable. However, the range and control are limited by repeated general words such as “shows,” “contents,” and “negative,” as well as noticeable spelling errors: “definetely,” “impects,” “Therfore,” and “ypung.” Some combinations are also unnatural, including “engaging contents,” “too much expose,” and “behave like them.” These issues make the writing less precise and occasionally slow the reader, which limits the effectiveness of the vocabulary. Build a bank of accurate crime-drama collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully; more precise phrasing would make your ideas clearer without requiring unusually advanced vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including the contrast in “although crime novels and television shows are famous…” and the conditional-style explanation “after watching movies or dramas.” Most sentences communicate the intended point, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “this kind of contents have” has a number-agreement problem, while “this type of content certainly have” repeats it in the conclusion. The phrase “after too much expose of this types of movies” also has faulty grammatical structure, and “when it comes to behave” needs a different verb pattern. These errors do not usually prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy. Practise agreement with “content” and “type,” and review verb patterns after expressions such as “when it comes to.”
