Student answer (Band 6.5)
In recent times, there has been a growing trend to read crime novels and watch crime TV dramas. As crime rates are significantly increasing in many countries, people are more interested in such stories and TV shows. I believe that crime fiction and Tv dramas are an excellent way to create awareness among people, and it will also reduce crime rates to some extent.
The rise in crimes around the world has significantly garnered public attention. As a result, people prefer to watch crime documentaries to know how criminals meticulously plan to commit a crime. To illustrate, CID was a very popular Indian crime show, where a group of detectives find the criminals through various legal evidences. This show gained worldwide popularity, as people liked the way how crime investigation department identified the criminals. Most importantly, this show was based on real-life stories, which was one of the reasons people liked watching it.
I personally believe that crime fiction and TV crime dramas are invaluable tools to create awareness among people, so they can stay more cautious of the real life criminals. For instance, TV dramas nowadays, are based on real stories which can educate people so that they do not fall prey to such criminals. Furthermore, such books and TV shows can discourage people to adopt crimes, as people get to know of the unfavourable consequences and punishments following such criminal acts.
In conclusion, the popularity of crime novels and TV shows is mainly attributed to the growing interest of people in such stories. I assert that this will have a positive impact on reducing the crime rate in the society, as people will be more aware of the government laws and punishments associated with criminal conducts.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both questions: you explain that rising crime attracts attention and that viewers enjoy seeing investigations, then give a clear positive opinion about crime fiction’s potential to raise awareness and discourage offending. The CID example makes the explanation more concrete. However, the reasons for popularity are not fully explored: the response focuses mainly on crime rates and real-life cases, without considering other possible attractions such as suspense, puzzles, or compelling characters. The claim that these programmes will reduce crime is also asserted rather than supported, and the final paragraph largely repeats the opinion instead of extending it. More balanced, specific development of both the popularity explanation and your evaluation would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining popularity, a paragraph presenting your opinion, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress in a logical order, and signposts such as “As a result,” “To illustrate,” and “Furthermore” help readers follow the argument. The organisation is therefore coherent, though some linking is mechanical and the conclusion repeats points already made rather than drawing them together. There are also occasional awkward links between claims—for example, the opening connects rising crime rates directly to greater interest in crime stories without explaining the relationship. Develop clearer transitions between the reasons for popularity and your assessment, and use referencing or varied links more precisely.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “meticulously plan,” “crime investigation,” “real-life stories,” and “unfavourable consequences.” These choices communicate the subject clearly and show attempts to use less common language. Some collocations and expressions are less natural, however: “legal evidences” is not idiomatic, “the way how” is redundant, and “criminal conducts” is an awkward phrase. “Crime rates are significantly increasing” is also a broad, repeated idea rather than precise vocabulary. Aim for more natural combinations and greater variety when describing why audiences enjoy the genre, such as suspense, clues, or plot twists. These refinements would make your vocabulary more flexible and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses with “as,” “where,” and “so that.” Most sentences are understandable, and errors do not prevent the reader from following your argument. Some grammatical and punctuation slips remain. For example, “it will also reduce crime rates” shifts from the plural subject “crime fiction and TV dramas” to “it”; “TV dramas nowadays, are based” has an unnecessary comma; and “the way how” uses an incorrect construction. There are also inconsistent capitalisation choices for “TV.” Review subject–verb reference, clause construction, and comma placement, while continuing to use varied sentence patterns. More consistent accuracy across these structures would strengthen the response.
