Student answer (Band 5.5)

There are always pros and cons of anything that is presented on TV, or cinemas. But the main thing that differentiates is the way of presentation. In my opinion, it is okay to have the crime novels and dramas because it tells us the other side of the reality that is kept hidden from us in the physical world.

I think the reason for the popularity of these types of shows is the youth or we can say the advance generation. Now a days people want to see something new, something different from the old lovey dovey scenes. The generation is actually brought up by the the romanctic stories told in novels and dramas, which automatically affected the youth's mind. They thought that all the things shown on TV are the part of real wolrd but unfortunately that is not a fact. Which also hurt the feelings of this generation and also raise the standards of youth. But wwhen they come to know the reality the were disapponited.

As disapponitment leads to a change , so this generation shifted to watch the opposite side of the reality that is crime. Also there is thrill and suspense that motivates the brain to watch much more like that which the brain could predict,or a challenging thing.

As my personal experience, i read a novel that was a type of crime story.Iwas so in to it that , i would read as many pages of that novel as i could per day. Also i was so shocked that how the villians are made .They are just the reaction of some normal people actions, which make them cruel, harsh and all that .

Ireally enjoyed that novel and it had so much to add in my knowledge.

So, i prefer that crime stories and TV shows should be run to create awareness among the youth.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the prompt: you suggest that younger viewers seek something different from romantic stories, and you give your opinion that crime fiction can create awareness. Your personal example of reading a crime novel also supports your interest in the genre. However, the explanation of popularity is not fully clear: the link between disappointment with romantic stories and a shift towards crime is asserted rather than explained, and “thrill and suspense” could be developed with a specific reason or example. Your view is present, but the final claim that crime shows should be broadcast “to create awareness” would be stronger if you explained what viewers can learn and acknowledged any possible drawbacks.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable progression from an opening opinion, to reasons for popularity, a personal example, and a concluding recommendation. Paragraph breaks help separate these stages. However, the development within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow: the discussion of romantic stories, disappointment, and crime moves through several claims without clearly showing how they connect. Linking phrases such as “As disappointment leads to a change” are used mechanically, and the opening sentence about pros and cons is not carried through in the essay. Some references, including “that” and “which” in the second paragraph, have unclear links. Use clearer topic sentences and make each paragraph develop one main point in a logical sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “thrill,” “suspense,” “reality,” and “villains,” and phrases such as “the opposite side of the reality” show an attempt to express an abstract idea. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or informal, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. For example, “advance generation” does not naturally describe young people, “the standards of youth” is unclear in context, and “run” is not the appropriate verb for TV programmes. Spelling errors such as “disapponitment,” “wolrd,” and “romanctic” are also noticeable. Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a relative clause in “the other side of the reality that is kept hidden” and a conditional-style contrast beginning “when they come to know the reality.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors in sentence boundaries, agreement, and verb forms sometimes make the reader work to understand your meaning. For example, “it tells us” does not agree with the plural subject “crime novels and dramas,” while “Which also hurt the feelings” is an incomplete sentence. The sentence beginning “They thought that all the things shown on TV…” also needs clearer punctuation and connection to the following idea. Practise forming complete sentences and checking subject–verb agreement and punctuation.
