Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both parts of the prompt: you explain the appeal through mystery, clue-solving and suspense, and you give a positive opinion, describing crime fiction as enjoyable and sometimes educational. The examples of readers solving a detective story and viewers learning to recognise risks make the response relevant. This meets the task well overall, but the ideas are not equally developed. The discussion of suspense is supported with several details, whereas the claim that crime dramas teach people how to respond to danger is broad and would benefit from a specific, realistic example. Your opinion is clear, though explaining any limits or drawbacks would make it more fully considered.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs with separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your view. The progression from entertainment and puzzle-solving to awareness is easy to follow, and examples generally appear in the relevant paragraphs. You also use linking expressions such as “For example,” “Another important aspect,” and “In conclusion.” At times, however, connections feel mechanical or unclear, as in “One major reason, why people attract to watch,” and the second body paragraph begins with an incomplete connection to its main idea. Use topic sentences that state each reason directly, and make references such as “it” and “these type of shows” unambiguous to improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “mystery,” “critical thinking,” “clues,” “unexpected twists,” and “suspicious situation.” These choices help communicate the main ideas and show some range beyond basic terms. However, several noticeable word-choice and collocation problems make parts less natural, such as “people attract to watch,” “readers and views raise awareness,” and “get to about certain human behavior.” Some words are also repeated, particularly “shows,” “novels,” and “people,” and “exciting” ideas are often expressed with general terms such as “interesting” and “enjoyable.” Build accuracy by learning common word partnerships and choosing more precise terms for viewers, suspense, and awareness.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional example beginning “if any person watch crime shows” and a sentence explaining how readers follow clues. This gives the response some structural variety, and the main message is generally understandable. However, errors occur across the response and sometimes make sentences difficult to process. Examples include “crime novels and shows are become,” “these particular type … it gives,” and “how behave in challenging situations.” These involve verb forms, agreement, and missing grammatical elements. There are also inconsistent capitalisation and punctuation choices, such as “then He or she.” Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb, and revise complex sentences for agreement and completeness.
