Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays, crime novels and TV crime dramas are becoming more popular among the people. I believe that the reason behind this is because of story line and the suspense which allow people to solve the mysteries, and i think it can both entertainment and educational.
To begin with, the main reason is suspense. To elaborate it, in the crime dramas, the writer always create the scene where show the two possiblities of the scene which make the viewer's more curious about the story line. Beside it, it is also work as education. For instance, after watching the crime dramas, people always try to connect the link of crime and start to gusse the possiblity of the criminal. This will help to improve the concentration and also develop the problem-solving skills.
In my opinion, TV crime dramas will help to develop the skills. the viewers also get to know about how the police or detactive works to slove the crime case. Although, it has the advantages, it has some drawbacks also. Sometime, TV crime serial shows too much violence which may distrube the audience. Apart from it, crime novel also bring the questions on authority about the safety and security, which make the fear among the society about the safety, as some channels try to make the stroy on actual crime which recently happened in the society.
In conclusion, crime novels and television dramas are more popular because they are exciting and full of mystery. I also enjoy to watch the crime dramas as long as it does not contain too much violence.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both questions: you explain that suspense and opportunities to guess the criminal attract viewers, and you give a personal view that crime dramas can be enjoyable and educational, while excessive violence is a drawback. The examples about improving concentration and learning how police work support your ideas, and the conclusion restates your position. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that crime novels raise questions about public safety is not clearly connected to their popularity or developed with an example. Clarify how each reason draws audiences in, and extend the less-developed points with specific explanation. The response meets the stated length requirement; the nine words copied from the task prompt are excluded from the count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph explaining popularity, a paragraph giving your opinion and drawbacks, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the main stages. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes uneven: the discussion shifts from educational benefits to police work, violence, and public fear without clearly linking these points. Some connectors are also awkward or repetitive, including “Apart from it” and “Although, it has the advantages.” Use more precise transitions and make the relationship between each supporting point explicit. Clearer links between sentences and a more focused paragraph structure would make the overall argument easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “suspense,” “mysteries,” “problem-solving skills,” “violence,” and “safety and security.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, for example “possiblities,” “gusse,” “detactive,” “slove,” and “distrube.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “connect the link of crime” and “the writer always create the scene.” These do not prevent understanding overall, but they reduce clarity and control. Check spelling carefully and learn natural collocations for describing plots, audience reactions, and investigative work; this will make your vocabulary more accurate and flexible.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause in “the scene where show the two possiblities” and a concession in “Although, it has the advantages.” This shows an effort to vary sentence forms, but control is inconsistent. Examples include “the writer always create,” “it can both entertainment and educational,” and “which make the fear,” where agreement or sentence construction is faulty. Capitalisation and punctuation also need attention, as in the lowercase “i” and the sentence beginning “the viewers.” Some longer sentences become difficult to follow because clauses are not joined accurately. Practise building complex sentences with a clear subject and verb, and proofread for agreement, complete clauses, and sentence boundaries.
