Student answer (Band 6.0)

Recently there has been registered a lot of heinous criminal activities and theft around the world that immensely boost the viewership in criminal series and books as people want to know about the mindset of the criminal and how to cater themselves from these situations in future if happened.

First of all, crime rates are surging around the communities that are initially known to be safe heaven for every individual. Although, few extreme level crimes also get media limelight due to their brutally shown towards the victim. For Instance, 2012 Delhi rape case, where seven mens including one minor has done heinous crime in running bus with 19 year old girl where victim got severely injured, that shake whole the world and emphasis on women safety. Thus, media or writer make the crafted information video for social awareness.

Secondly, demand play a vital role here as citizens are now bored with the same old school love stories that has similar happy ending. Now, they want to watch thriller and action films where crime dramas and web-series includes all these favours and fit perfectly. For example, many nations movies director has made multiple crime movies in parts due to overwhelmed response from public. Hence, today's generation preference has changed in terms of content watching.

To Recapitulate, I believe that these types of series and novels not only meet the current demand of the public but also generate awareness among them that how to save themselves in that particular moment which might help in eliminating these crimes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both questions: you explain popularity through public concern about crime and a preference for thrillers over familiar love stories, and you give a positive opinion that crime fiction can raise awareness. The Delhi case is a relevant example, and your conclusion restates your view. This meets the task well, with some elements already showing the clear position and support expected at a stronger level. However, the first reason is not always clearly connected to why audiences choose crime stories, and the example focuses more on a real crime and media coverage than on a particular book or drama. Develop each reason more explicitly—for instance, explain the appeal of suspense, solving a mystery, or seeing how investigators work—and clarify how such stories can promote safety without overstating their effect on crime.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “First of all,” “Secondly,” and “To Recapitulate” make the main stages easy to identify, and the examples generally follow the points they are intended to support. However, some links are mechanical, and the progression within the first body paragraph is not fully clear: it moves from rising crime to a specific assault and then to media-produced awareness videos, without explaining each connection. The opening sentence is also overloaded, making the central idea harder to follow. Use clearer topic sentences and connect evidence directly to the reason for popularity; vary linking devices and use pronouns or references only when their meaning is unmistakable.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a reasonable range of topic vocabulary, including “heinous criminal activities,” “viewership,” “mindset,” “thriller,” and “social awareness.” These choices show an effort to discuss crime and entertainment precisely, and the overall meaning remains understandable. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural collocations and word choices, such as “cater themselves from these situations,” “safe heaven,” “media limelight,” and “overwhelmed response.” Some expressions also sound too informal or imprecise for an essay, including “old school love stories” and “all these favours.” Aim for natural combinations and accurate forms: for example, say that viewers want to “protect themselves,” that a place is a “safe haven,” and that a film received an “overwhelming response.” Proofreading spelling and word forms would improve control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a relative clause in “where seven mens including one minor…” and a contrast clause beginning “Although.” This gives the response some variety, and the main message can usually be understood. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “there has been registered” uses an awkward passive structure, while “seven mens … has done” has errors in both the plural noun and subject–verb agreement. “That shake whole the world” also lacks correct agreement and article use. The opening sentence is difficult to control because it carries several ideas in one structure. Practise building accurate complex sentences, check singular and plural subjects, and use full stops to separate ideas when a sentence becomes unwieldy.
