Student answer (Band 6.5)

Now-a-days, books and TV series made around crime dramas are getting fame all around the world. The reasons behind the popularity of these novels and shows as well as my personal opinion on crime fiction and TV crime dramas is explained in the following paragraphs.

The first and foremost reason is the relevance of this novels and series to the real life. We have seen that in recent times writers have made contents on real life incidents. for example, popular TV series "Inventing Anna" is based on the real life story of "Anna Sorokin" who was convicted for many crimes. This kind of content triggers the curosity of people and it eventully becomes popular. Moreover, the creators and directors are becoming more and more creative and innovative day by day. They perfect everything from writing to VFX. As a result, their books and shows are so good that people can't resist themselves from watching it specially the one with suspense. The dark knight triology is the best example of such books and shows.

I personally think that consumption of such content is good for thrilling experience and to gain some knowledge out of it. But we should avoid over consumption as consuming such content(s) constantly can affect a person's thoughts. For example, One of my neighbour had became paranoid few years ago; all the other neighbours blame it to constant reading of crime novels and watching TV crime drams. Moreover, there are a lot of other reading material and video content available on TV around comedy and romance. People should also watch those shows and read those books as it helps people refresh their minds and make them happy.

To conclude, It can be said that consumption of crime drama content is not wrong when consumed in a reasonable amount. along with that, people should also consider watching other genres as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address both parts of the prompt: you explain popularity through links to real events and improved production, then give a clear view that crime dramas can be enjoyable and informative if consumed in moderation. The examples of Inventing Anna and your neighbour help make the discussion relevant, and your conclusion restates your position. The reasons are extended with explanation, particularly how real-life stories create curiosity. However, the claim that crime content provides knowledge is not illustrated, and the neighbour anecdote is used to suggest an effect without much support. Develop these points more carefully and avoid broad claims about how such content affects people to make the argument more fully convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining popularity, a paragraph giving your opinion, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “As a result,” and “To conclude” help show relationships between points. The examples are placed near the claims they support, which makes the discussion easy to follow. At times, however, the links feel formulaic, and the final paragraph introduces other genres without fully connecting this point to the central argument. Some references, such as “this kind of content,” could be made more precise. Use transitions more selectively and make each paragraph’s supporting details connect directly to its main idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “real life incidents,” “curiosity,” “suspense,” “paranoid,” and “over consumption.” These choices allow you to discuss both the appeal and possible drawbacks of crime fiction. You also attempt more specific expressions such as “creative and innovative” and “thrilling experience,” though some combinations are unnatural or imprecise: “getting fame,” “perfect everything from writing to VFX,” and “consumption of crime drama content” could be expressed more idiomatically. Spelling errors such as “curosity,” “eventully,” and “drams” also reduce accuracy. Build a bank of natural collocations for discussing popularity, production quality, and viewing habits, and proofread spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “as well as,” “that,” and “as.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the conditional idea in “when consumed in a reasonable amount” is understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, however. Examples include “the relevance of this novels” (demonstrative and plural agreement), “the reasons … is explained” (subject–verb agreement), and “had became paranoid” (verb form). Articles and punctuation also need attention, as in “a person's thoughts” after a plural generalisation and the inconsistent capitalisation after full stops. Review agreement, verb forms, and sentence boundaries, then proofread to improve control while retaining your varied sentence structures.
