Student answer (Band 5.0)

Currently, melodramas and crime novels place a pivotal role in many nations. Most of the people are addicted to this as a phenomenon. From my opinion, it is because of their taste and grasping power on that particular field.

Firstly, comparing both of the crime novels and Television crime dramas help people to overcome their loneliness in homes. On the one hand, if a person is continuosly watching crime dramas regularly he or she become addicted to that program and slowly they forget to do their own jobs at proper time.Likewise, they were mentally seperated from their family life and physical life too. Also dramas and novels have the power to inject good and bad in same time. For example, I have a cousin, named aswin, who had vast interest in watching bollywood crime drama named 'Asura' in 2019.At that time he was too aggressive and short-tempered while talking to others.

On the other hand, talking about the crime novels, have the same effect as dramas. Moreover, reading is considered as a good habit for people. But reading crime novels enhance bad thoughts as well as killing mentalities on a person if they felt anything will not correct on their worst times.

To recapitulate, these popularity is caused by the loneliness and unhappiness of people. it can be recovered by strengthening family values and outdoor time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You address both questions by suggesting that loneliness contributes to the popularity of crime entertainment and by expressing concern about its effects. The example of your cousin watching “Asura” gives one personal illustration. However, the explanation of why crime novels and dramas attract audiences is limited: “their taste and grasping power” is unclear and is not developed into specific reasons such as suspense or solving mysteries. Your opinion is also mainly negative and is not fully explained; the discussion focuses on possible harm rather than giving a balanced, clear view of crime fiction and television dramas. The response is 33 words below the required minimum, which further limits the development of your ideas. Explain both the appeal and your own view with more relevant support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a concluding sentence. “Firstly” and “On the other hand” signal a change in focus, and the cousin’s example is placed within the discussion of television dramas. However, the overall progression is not always clear: the first body paragraph moves from loneliness to addiction and then to aggression without explaining how these points connect to popularity. “On the other hand” suggests a contrast, but the next paragraph largely repeats the claim that novels have the same effect. Some links are also unclear, including “these popularity” in the conclusion. Build each paragraph around one main point and use transitions to show the actual relationship between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt some topic-related and less common vocabulary, including “pivotal role,” “phenomenon,” “aggressive,” and “short-tempered.” These choices show an effort to discuss the subject beyond very basic language. However, several expressions are inaccurate or unclear, which makes parts of the argument difficult to follow: “place a pivotal role,” “grasping power on that particular field,” and “inject good and bad in same time” do not convey your intended meaning naturally. There are also spelling errors such as “continuosly” and “seperated,” and some repetition of “crime dramas” and “crime novels.” Aim for precise collocations and use vocabulary that directly explains the appeal of the genre, such as suspense, mystery, or plot twists.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, including a conditional structure beginning “if a person is… watching.” This gives the response some structural variety. However, attempts at longer sentences are often inaccurate, and errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction occur frequently. For example, “he or she become addicted” needs subject–verb agreement, while “comparing both of the crime novels and Television crime dramas help people” has an unclear grammatical structure. “Reading crime novels enhance” also has an agreement error, and punctuation spacing is inconsistent. These problems sometimes make the intended meaning harder to understand. Practise building accurate sentences around one main clause, then add subordinate clauses only when you can control their grammar.
