Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, crime novels and TV crime dramas has become increasingly famous in many countries. The reasons behind that is that they spread awareness amongst people and they are very suspenseful. Let's discuss this further in the upcoming paragraphs.
One of the main reasons why it has been so popular is that they spread awareness among the viewers. To explain, these novels and TV dramas shows how crimes takes place and how they should be treated. For example, i read an article in which the author mentioned that people who read the crime novels and watch crime TV dramas are more aware of the crimes and more successful in identifying a crime.
In my opinion, I believe that people watch criminal dramas and read crime novels because they are very suspenseful and people really enjoy watching/reading them. For instance, I personally love watching TV dramas becuase they are suspenseful and story is very interesting and it helps me itentify the crimes easily and the possible action to be taken. However, there is a drawback which cannot be ignored as well. If these dramas and novels make people aware about these crimes, on the other hand it gives more criminal ideas to the criminals. In an article in New York Times, it was published that this information provided so easily is making our society more dangerous because younsters and criminals are commiting the same crimes they are leaning in these dramas and novels.
To conclude, there is no doubt that crime TV dramas are so famous because they spread awareness and are very interesting but i believe the fact that they influence the criminals and youngsters cannot be ignored.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both parts of the prompt: you explain popularity through awareness and suspense, and you give a personal view, including a concern that crime stories may inspire imitation. The examples about identifying crimes and your own enjoyment make the response relevant. However, the reasons are not equally developed: suspense is asserted rather than explained in detail, and the claim that viewers become more successful at identifying crime relies on a briefly mentioned article rather than a clear example. Your opinion is present, but its balance could be clearer: explain whether you consider the benefits greater than the risks. More specific support and fuller development of these points would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate body paragraphs and a conclusion. The progression from awareness to suspense and then to possible harm is easy to follow, and signposts such as “For example” and “To conclude” help guide the reader. Some linking is mechanical or imprecise, however. The sentence “If these dramas and novels make people aware … on the other hand” does not form a clear contrastive structure; use “Although …, they may also …” instead. The opening also promises discussion of two reasons, but the first body paragraph focuses mainly on awareness. Develop each reason in a distinct, balanced way and use referencing that makes connections between ideas more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “suspenseful,” “spread awareness,” “identifying a crime” and “criminal ideas.” These choices communicate the main points, but the range is limited by repeated wording such as “crime,” “novels,” “dramas” and “people,” and some expressions are not natural or precise. “Become increasingly famous” is less suitable than “become increasingly popular,” while “more criminal ideas to the criminals” is awkward and unclear. There are also spelling errors, including “becuase,” “itetify,” “younsters” and “commiting,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and check spelling carefully; varied terms such as “crime fiction,” “viewers” and “imitate criminal behaviour” would help.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including explanations with “because” and a contrast involving “However.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but errors in agreement and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “crime novels and TV crime dramas has become” should use “have become,” and “these novels and TV dramas shows how crimes takes place” contains several agreement errors. In “the reasons behind that is,” the subject and verb do not agree. Some longer structures are also faulty, particularly the “If … on the other hand” sentence. Review subject–verb agreement, articles and clause structure, then proofread each sentence. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentence attempts clearer.
