Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
I am in terms with this statement. I am an avid lover of crime novels and dramas. I used to watch movies which is more dramatic, romantic and happy ending but then I started to watch shows in the crime genure, I could not help watching it. Now, I am more like an addict of crime or thriller dramas.
Not certain about the reason behind the popularity but more people are looking for something exciting, mysterious and thrilling kind of experience. So, If you are given choices, most of them will go with crime dramas and novels. Maybe just for the adrenaline hike.
The way those books and movies are giving the chills is nothing compared to any other genures. Once you watch or read a good crime novel or a drama, you will certainly search for more like those. It might be a personal choice as well, people like me enjoy something which seems to be more happening. If you are a person who likes to question everything like why? what? or how? crime related mopvies is the best thing you can watch.
For Instance; In India, there released a crime movie a couple of years ago and for the first few days, the tickets were fully sold out. I waited four or five days to book a ticket and that was the time I realised this is something people loves to watch and enjoy.
More than the excitment and chill, there will be a lot of logical information you are acquiring which makes it different from other kind of stories.
I guess that would be the reason behind the popularity of these kind of novels and dramas.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both questions: you suggest that crime stories appeal through excitement, mystery, suspense and the chance to think logically, and you make your personal enthusiasm clear. The India cinema example also gives the response a relevant real-world illustration. However, the explanation of popularity remains quite general, and several points are asserted rather than developed—for example, the claim that viewers choose crime dramas when offered a choice is not supported with a reason or example. Your opinion is clear as a fan, but the task also invites an evaluation of crime fiction and dramas; explaining what you value about them, and whether you see any drawbacks, would make this part more complete. Develop fewer ideas in greater depth and connect each example directly to your explanation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has some organisation: it begins with your personal experience, moves to possible reasons for popularity, gives an example from India, and ends by returning to the question. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages. However, the overall progression is not consistently clear, and several ideas repeat the same point about excitement and enjoyment without adding much. Linking phrases such as “So,” “Maybe,” and “For Instance” are used, but they do not always show the precise relationship between ideas; the final paragraph also repeats the popularity explanation rather than drawing the discussion together. Plan a clearer sequence—personal view, two developed reasons, supporting example, and conclusion—and use references such as “this appeal” to connect ideas without repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “mysterious,” “thrilling,” “adrenaline,” “logical information,” and “crime-related,” which helps communicate your interest in the genre. There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice problems, such as “genure,” “mopvies,” and “excitment,” as well as awkward combinations like “adrenaline hike” and “giving the chills.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but they make the expression less natural and precise. Build a more reliable range of collocations for discussing entertainment and audience appeal, and proofread spelling carefully. For example, “adrenaline rush” and “create suspense” would express your intended meanings more idiomatically.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “If you are a person who likes to question everything…” and a relative clause in “movies which is more dramatic.” The meaning is generally understandable, but errors recur in sentence structure, agreement, and verb forms. For example, “movies which is” should use a plural verb, while “people loves to watch” should be “people love to watch.” The opening “I am in terms with this statement” is also not a well-formed sentence for expressing your position. Some punctuation choices, such as the semicolon after “For Instance,” interrupt the flow. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build complex sentences from clear, complete clauses.
