Student answer (Band 6.0)

Well, crime books and dramas are extremely popular around the globe. Sometimes, seeing this kind of movies give us warning but sometimes crime fictions wash people brain. There are a plethora of reasons behind it. I will discuss in the following paraghraphs.

To begin with, people want to watch something new in movies and series. They are getting bored by watching or reading same kind of genre. Furthermore, crime rates are increasing. As a result, people want to take some advice and ended up reading crime fictions. There is a famous Indian Television show called "Crime Petrol". In which, they telecast a real crime that had happened in the particular region. It has all the information along with what has been done to the criminal. The purpose of this drama is to share the incident to the community so that people would be aware. But, some people watch this drama and learn the different crime techniques.

What is more, citizens used to read some religious books in the past decads. But, nowadays trend is changed and people like to read action, thriller and fiction books. Also, books which has suspense story is in demand. I have recently read one book which has only one thing, how to kill somebody to get a posiotion in the government sectors.

In my view, these all dramas and books are manageable, if it is only for entertainment purpose. If these crime fictions and shows are damaging people mindset then it should be banned.

Overall, it would be good to have some books and TV series on crime but not a lot.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the prompt: you suggest that audiences seek novelty and awareness of crime, and you give a qualified opinion that crime fiction is acceptable for entertainment but harmful if it influences people negatively. The example of the Indian programme “Crime Petrol” helps explain the awareness argument. However, some reasons are asserted rather than fully explained: the claim that rising crime rates make people seek advice needs a clearer link to the popularity of fiction, and the book about killing to gain a government position is mentioned without explaining what it shows about readers’ interest. Develop each main reason with a specific explanation or example, and make your final position more precise than saying there should be “not a lot.”

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs about possible reasons, a paragraph giving your opinion, and a brief conclusion. Linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “What is more” help signal the sequence. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “In which” begins a sentence fragment after the programme is introduced, and the shift from religious books to crime fiction is not fully explained. The opinion paragraph and conclusion also repeat the idea that crime content should be limited without adding a distinct final point. Improve progression by grouping related reasons, using complete sentences, and making the relationship between each example and its main idea explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “crime rates,” “crime techniques,” “suspense,” and “entertainment purpose.” These choices make your main ideas understandable, and “a plethora of reasons” shows an attempt to use less common language. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or informal, however, such as “wash people brain,” “same kind of genre,” and “take some advice.” There are also spelling errors, including “paraghraphs,” “decads,” and “posiotion,” which reduce the accuracy of the writing. Aim for more natural topic-specific expressions and check spelling carefully; precise phrasing will make your arguments sound clearer and more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “so that” and “if,” and most of your meaning remains clear. Some grammatical errors occur, particularly with agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries. For example, “movies give us warning” needs a plural or article adjustment, while “books which has suspense story” has a subject–verb agreement error and an incomplete article pattern. “In which, they telecast…” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence, and “people want to take some advice and ended up reading” shifts verb form inconsistently. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and finite verb, and maintain consistent verb forms when joining actions.
