Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both questions by giving reasons for the genre’s popularity—thrill, mystery, entertainment and curiosity—and by offering a personal view. Examples such as India’s Crime Patrol and Sherlock Holmes help make the discussion relevant. However, the opinion is brief and not fully clear: the point that these stories help people understand criminal motives is useful, but it is not developed into a clear evaluation of whether you consider the genre beneficial, enjoyable, or problematic. Some claims, such as viewers choosing detective careers, also need explanation or support. The response is 247 words, so it does not meet the required minimum. Develop your opinion with a reasoned example and ensure the response reaches at least 250 words.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, supporting paragraphs and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore” and “To sum up” show an effort to guide the reader, and the examples generally follow the points they illustrate. However, progression is not consistently clear: the introduction promises a discussion, while the opinion appears only briefly in a separate paragraph and is not connected smoothly to the earlier reasons. Several ideas are crowded together, and the conclusion repeats popularity reasons rather than bringing the argument together. Some linking phrases are mechanical or awkwardly punctuated. Organise each body paragraph around one main point, explain it, and then connect the example explicitly to that point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “mysteries,” “thrilling,” “entertainment,” “twists,” “curiosity” and “criminal mind.” These choices show awareness of the subject and allow the main ideas to be understood. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “crime,” “popular” and “stories.” Noticeable spelling and word-choice errors—such as “Eassy,” “novals,” “tiwst” and “excitting”—sometimes make the reader pause. Some combinations are also unnatural, for example “people are excited in watching” and “crime related stories.” Build a more accurate range of collocations and check spelling carefully; for instance, use “interested in watching” and “crime dramas” where appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, including a reason-and-example structure with “For example” and a sentence beginning “Furthermore.” This gives the response some variety. However, the range remains limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence construction, agreement, articles and verb forms. For example, “there are several reason” lacks plural agreement, “this statement will discussed” is missing an auxiliary, and “countries like japan has” has a subject–verb agreement problem. Some sentences are incomplete or run together, especially the opening, which makes relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then check agreement, articles and punctuation before submitting.
