Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: explaining your motivation, describing your skills, and stating your availability. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention your computer skills and employee management experience, these are not fully elaborated upon in the context of a museum setting. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening and closing salutations need to be more consistent with standard business English. To improve, ensure that your ideas are expanded with more specific details to demonstrate how your skills would directly benefit the museum.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your message. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'However', and 'Therefore' to link your ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, which occasionally disrupts the flow of the text. For instance, the transition in the second paragraph regarding your availability is a bit repetitive. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words more naturally and ensure that the progression between sentences is smoother and less abrupt.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, but it is quite basic and contains several errors in word choice and collocation. Phrases like 'received on of article' and 'opning job related' are non-standard and hinder the precision of your writing. You rely on simple vocabulary, and there is a lack of variety in your word choice. To improve, try to learn and use more specific professional terminology related to volunteering and job applications, and pay closer attention to the correct usage of prepositions and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter, including issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and sentence structure. For example, 'I am student on of Toronto University' and 'I am not get any amount' contain significant errors that make the writing feel disjointed. While you attempt to use some complex structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that your verbs are correctly conjugated and that you use articles (a/an/the) accurately. Proofreading for these common errors will significantly improve the clarity of your writing.
