Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the reason for volunteering, relevant skills, and availability. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why you want to volunteer is quite brief, and the connection between your past experience during the pandemic and the museum role could be more explicitly linked to museum-specific tasks. While the tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, the content lacks the depth required for a higher band score. To improve, try to expand on how your specific qualities, such as patience or organizational skills, would directly benefit the museum environment.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'Firstly', 'secondly', 'finally'). There are also issues with sentence boundaries, such as 'which is helpful for my future' being a sentence fragment, and the transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt. The paragraphing is present but could be more effectively managed to ensure a smoother flow of information. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences are complete will significantly enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You rely on simple phrases like 'help people' and 'good qualities'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'request you apply' (instead of 'apply for') and 'fastly' (which is not a standard adverb; 'as quickly as possible' would be better). To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more precise, topic-specific vocabulary related to volunteering and museum operations, such as 'community engagement', 'administrative support', or 'exhibition assistance'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter, including issues with verb tenses ('i was worked'), subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often contain errors, such as the fragment 'which is helpful for my future'. Additionally, there are consistent issues with capitalization (e.g., 'i', 'secondly') and spelling ('apendemic', 'voluntar'). To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring consistent capitalization, and reviewing the correct usage of past and present tenses.
