Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my interest in joining for voluteer position at your museum. As a student in marketing management, this position will give me an exposure to customer handling and time managemeent.
As per the advertisement that I saw on the mesuem's website, there are two positions open for the voluntary work. The reason behind applying for this position is that I have learned different techniques such as human management and communication skills, and also completed several practicals during my schoolling in marketing as an internship. Now this is the time where I can apply my knowledge on real time and to gain practical experience rather than focusing on getting paid.
The best part of this position is that it requires the candidates who can work on weekends as a part-time volunteer, which will perfectly sync with my schedule as I am only available on weekends - Saturday and Sunday.
I would like to hear from you and am glad to join your team to support.
Yours Faithfully,
Pritesh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt effectively. You clearly explained your motivation for volunteering, highlighted relevant skills from your marketing background, and specified your availability. The tone is appropriate for a formal application letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could provide a specific example of a 'human management' technique you have used to make your skills more concrete. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'As per the advertisement' and 'The reason behind', which help link your ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences more fluidly. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'marketing management', 'customer handling', and 'practical experience'. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'voluteer' instead of 'volunteer', 'mesuem' instead of 'museum', and 'schoolling' instead of 'schooling'. While these do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and ensure careful proofreading to eliminate simple spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I am writing this letter to express...' and 'The reason behind applying... is that I have learned...'. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'joining for voluteer position' (should be 'a volunteer position') and 'Now this is the time where I can apply my knowledge on real time' (should be 'in real-time'). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not cause difficulty for the reader. Increasing your control over articles and prepositions will help improve your score.
