Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I saw an advert that people that want to do voluntary at this museum should contact you. I am writing this letter!
I would like to do voluntary work in your museum. I am keen on art and history, and especially I am keen on working with them. For what I know, your museum is based on works of art that have fabulous history.
In the museum I could work as a guide. I already know some interesting information about the drawings that you something that you have in the museum, if there is something that needs improvement, I am opened to studying and developing my knowledge.
I really like working with other people and explaining things that they are interested in, and that is a good skill I guess for guiding.
I am free every Monday, Thursday and Sunday from 3PM to 7PM.
I am waiting for your reply and I hope that you agree with my voluntary work.
Yours faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explained your interest in the museum, described your skills as a guide, and provided your availability. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention being keen on art and history, you could have expanded on why this specific museum appeals to you. Similarly, your description of skills is a bit vague; providing a concrete example of a past experience or a specific area of knowledge would have strengthened your application. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though some phrasing is slightly informal.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'I am writing this letter' and 'In the museum', which help the reader follow your ideas. However, the transitions between sentences are sometimes a bit mechanical, and the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition'). The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure is easy to follow, which is a positive aspect of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your intentions clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'voluntary work', 'advert', and 'knowledge'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly unnatural word choices, such as 'I am keen on working with them' (referring to art and history) and 'you something that you have in the museum'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise collocations and a broader range of vocabulary related to professional applications and museum environments.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For instance, 'I saw an advert that people that want to do voluntary' is clunky, and 'I am opened to studying' should be 'I am open to studying'. Additionally, there are minor punctuation and phrasing issues, such as 'if there is something that needs improvement, I am opened to...'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a greater focus on sentence construction accuracy.
