Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: explaining the motivation for volunteering, describing relevant skills, and providing availability. The tone is appropriate for a formal application. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention your interest in history and art, expanding slightly more on how your specific academic goals align with the museum's mission would have strengthened the response. The purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader is provided with all necessary information to process the application. Overall, the task is fulfilled effectively, though with a tendency toward brevity in the supporting details.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the purpose of the letter to personal motivations, skills, and finally availability. Paragraphing is used, though the structure is quite compact. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'for instance' or 'furthermore', but the current text relies heavily on simple sentence connectors. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly. For example, instead of starting several sentences with 'I', you could vary the sentence structure to improve the flow between your skills and your availability. The overall arrangement is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your message clearly. Phrases like 'pursue my higher education' and 'valuable knowledge and experience' are appropriate for this context. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'show my interest to a voluntary job' (should be 'in a volunteer position') and 'work sincerely' (which is not a standard collocation; 'work diligently' would be better). The vocabulary is generally functional and fits the task, but incorporating more precise, topic-specific terminology would help elevate the score to a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are recurring grammatical errors. For example, 'assist me gain' should be 'assist me in gaining' or 'help me gain'. There are also minor prepositional errors, such as 'reach to on this email' instead of 'reach me at this email'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but some sentences are slightly run-on. To achieve a higher band, focus on ensuring that verb patterns (like 'assist someone to do' vs 'help someone do') are used correctly and work on reducing these small, frequent errors.
