Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: the reason for volunteering, relevant skills, and availability. However, the development of these points is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the mention of 'coding skills' is not clearly linked to the context of a museum, and the explanation regarding availability is confusing, as you mention starting a job as a security guard next month while applying for a volunteer position. To improve, ensure your ideas are more logically connected to the specific context of the museum and that your timeline for availability is clear and consistent throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some basic cohesive devices such as 'First of all' and 'Moreover' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures, such as the frequent use of 'I have a'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition between your skills and your previous experience feels abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would help elevate the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your intentions clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'voluntary', 'graduation', and 'responsibility'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and unnatural collocations, such as 'getting job' instead of 'applying for a position' and 'I have a interested' instead of 'I am interested'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to professional correspondence and avoid repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include incorrect article usage (e.g., 'a enough spare time', 'a good communication'), subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'As i am recently completed'), and tense inconsistencies. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. Focusing on basic grammar rules, such as the correct use of articles and verb tenses, will significantly improve the accuracy and professional tone of your writing.
