Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to get permission about working as a voluntary at the museum.
I always like to do voluntary work, which is helpful for others as well as for our nation, so I think working in a museum is the best way to do something for the country and public. Apart from that I like to do unpaid work because it's given me relation and peace of mind.
Moreover, I have good qualities and skills to do voluntary work like kindness, patience and willingness as well as I also have good communication skills, so working with different kind of people is easy for me. Finally, I am good team player and have positive attitude to do voluntary work.
I always have day off on weekend and that time museum is almost crowded, so I think that is the best time for me to do unpaid work it is helpful for the museum to attend more customer.
I am looking forward for your prompt response.
Yours faithfully,
Rupinder Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explained your motivation for volunteering, listed relevant skills such as communication and patience, and specified your availability on weekends. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention 'kindness' and 'patience', these are not fully linked to how they would specifically benefit a museum environment. To reach a higher band, try to provide more concrete examples of how your skills would be applied in a museum setting, such as assisting visitors or helping with exhibitions. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though some phrasing is slightly informal.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Apart from that', 'Moreover', and 'Finally' to connect your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly repetitive. The use of referencing is generally clear, though there are minor issues with sentence structure that occasionally disrupt the flow. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your sentences connect more naturally to one another to create a smoother reading experience.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'voluntary work', 'communication skills', and 'positive attitude'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'get permission about working' (should be 'apply for a volunteer position') and 'it's given me relation' (likely meant 'relaxation'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more precise vocabulary related to professional applications.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and articles, such as 'I always like to do' (should be 'I have always enjoyed'), 'that time museum is almost crowded' (should be 'the museum is usually crowded'), and 'it is helpful for the museum to attend more customer' (should be 'assist more visitors'). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your intent. Increasing your control over basic grammar and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your score.
