Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: the reason for volunteering, relevant skills, and availability. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. However, the development of these points is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of skills could be more detailed to better persuade the director. While the tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, some phrasing is slightly informal or awkward, such as 'If I talk about why you can recognise me'. Overall, the task requirements are met, but the depth of the response is limited, which prevents it from reaching a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. The use of cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Moreover' helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'If I talk about why you can recognise me'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally imprecise, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. Despite these minor issues, the overall structure is coherent and the message is easy to follow throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choices, such as 'voluntary work' (instead of 'volunteer position'), 'I am love to meet' (grammatical error affecting lexical flow), and 'biweekly' (which can be ambiguous). The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility or precision required for a higher band. Spelling is generally accurate, but the overall lexical control is limited to common, everyday language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('I am love to meet', 'I want learn'), tense errors ('untill my new semster will start'), and punctuation mistakes (missing commas, incorrect capitalization). While these errors are frequent, they do not impede communication; the reader can clearly understand the writer's intent. To improve, the student should focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms.
