Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the task. You clearly explain your motivation for volunteering, describe your relevant skills in public speaking and guiding, and state your availability. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of application. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the explanation of your skills could be more specific to a museum setting. While the task is fully addressed, the depth of the content is basic. To reach a higher band, ensure that your reasons for wanting to volunteer are more personal and compelling, and provide more concrete examples of how your skills would benefit the museum specifically.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Due to this', and 'so that' to connect your ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'so why not this would be good opportunity'. The progression of ideas is easy to follow, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the relationship between sentences is always clear and natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'voluntary work', 'historical achievements', and 'earliest convenience'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'potential interest regarding for joining' and 'a guider to assists'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do highlight a lack of precision. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more natural collocations and avoiding redundant phrasing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more specific terms related to museum work or volunteering would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'regarding for joining', 'why not this would be', and 'a guider to assists'. Additionally, the phrase 'I am flexible to work outside as well' is slightly unnatural. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help you move into the higher band range.
