Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to express my keen interest to join museum as a volunteer. I saw your post on LinkedIn, where you were looking for volunteers for variety of tasks, including digital marketing.
I am a final year student of Masters in Digital Marketing. My course supposed to be finish this summer and I would like to gain some ground experience before completing my course so that I can brush up my skills and also able to make my own project with results.
However, I am a professional marketing agent still I have data analysis skills which can help you make data driven decisions for marketing campaigns. Therefore, I can make dynamic strategies to obtain more from marketing investment. My command over modern data science skills with analytical approach can help you a lot.
I could be available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday along with weekends.
Please let me know if any other information or documents required.
Yours sincerely
Ash

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explain your motivation for volunteering, highlight relevant skills in digital marketing and data analysis, and provide specific availability. The tone is appropriate for a formal application. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully developed; for instance, you could have elaborated slightly more on how your specific data analysis skills would benefit the museum's current marketing efforts. Overall, the response is purposeful and meets the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'However' and 'Therefore' to link ideas. While the progression is clear, the transition between the second and third paragraphs feels slightly abrupt. To improve, consider using a wider variety of linking phrases to connect your professional background to the specific contribution you intend to make. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the letter follows a standard formal structure, which helps the reader follow your argument easily.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'keen interest', 'data driven decisions', and 'dynamic strategies'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'gain some ground experience' (should be 'gain some practical experience') and 'My course supposed to be finish' (should be 'is supposed to finish'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over collocations. Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated professional terminology would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'I am writing this letter to express my keen interest to join museum' (missing article 'the'), 'My course supposed to be finish' (missing auxiliary verb and incorrect verb form), and 'I am a professional marketing agent still I have data analysis skills' (run-on sentence). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions in formal writing.
