Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir / Madam,
I am writing this letter to submit my application for voluntary job in Museum.
Interestingly, I would like to do this task because I want to spend my summer holiday at there and learn the significance of the objects, cultures and arts. Besides that, the museum location is just walking distance from my house, so it would be convenient for me to commute.
Additionally, I have all required skills and qualities needed to perform this work. I have exceptional organizational skill, so I can organize all artifacts in their respective department. Apart from that, customer service will be performed by me, and I have superior English-speaking ability for that. Furthermore, I have learned importance of our culture and traditional value in my graduation, so I can easily elaborate the values of archeological finds and equipment to the visitors.
I will be available on all weekdays but can not work on weekends as we plan family events and trips at the end of the week.
I am excited to grab this opportunity and look forward to hearing a positive response from you on my application.
Yours Faithfully,
Ravi Prajapati.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained your motivation for volunteering, outlined your relevant skills—such as organizational abilities and customer service—and provided specific details regarding your availability. The tone is appropriate for a formal application letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for example, instead of stating you have 'all required skills,' you could provide a brief, concrete example of a past experience where you utilized these skills. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a suitable closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'Additionally,' 'Apart from that,' and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. While these are effective, the flow could be improved by varying the transitions, as some feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points of the letter, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. The progression of ideas is logical and consistent throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'significance,' 'exceptional,' and 'elaborate.' However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'voluntary job in Museum' (should be 'a voluntary position at the museum') and 'at there' (should be 'there'). To improve, try to use more precise collocations and ensure articles are used correctly. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more sophisticated or topic-specific terminology would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'I have learned importance of our culture' (missing an article) and 'can not work' (should be 'cannot'). Additionally, the phrase 'customer service will be performed by me' is passive and slightly awkward; an active voice construction like 'I am experienced in providing customer service' would be more natural. Despite these errors, your meaning is always clear, and the mistakes do not impede communication.
