Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain your motivation for volunteering, describe your relevant skills, and provide your availability. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, there is some repetition in the first two paragraphs regarding your studies, which makes the development slightly redundant. To improve, ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct idea rather than restating the same point. Overall, the task is fully addressed, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition to', 'However', and 'Therefore' (implied). However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the connection between the first and second paragraphs is weak due to the repetitive content. The use of referencing is generally clear, and the overall progression of ideas is easy to follow. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph flows naturally into the next without repeating information.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'voluntary position', 'academic requirements', and 'sociable personality'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'summit my volunteer experience' (should be 'submit') and 'gain a valuable skills' (should be 'gain valuable skills'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations related to professional settings to enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'it's directly aligned my current studies' (missing 'with') and 'which I develop' (should be 'developed'). Additionally, the phrase 'because I have to summit' is a fragment when used as a standalone sentence. Despite these errors, the meaning is never in doubt, and the communication remains effective. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with accurate tense usage and prepositions.
