Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter covers all three bullet points: the motivation for volunteering, relevant skills/qualities, and availability. However, the development of these points is somewhat superficial. For instance, the mention of 'ancient things' and 'history people' is vague and lacks the specific detail expected at higher bands. The tone is inconsistent, shifting between formal and informal, and the structure is slightly repetitive, particularly in the opening and closing sections. To improve, ensure that ideas are expanded with more precise vocabulary and that the tone remains consistently professional throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'Therefore;' is used incorrectly with a semicolon, and the repetition of 'Dear' at the start of the second paragraph is confusing. The flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the second and third paragraphs where ideas are listed rather than linked logically. Improving the use of transition words and ensuring a consistent, formal structure would significantly enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There is a reliance on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'I have a lot of knowledge' and 'do some courses'. Some word choices are unnatural, such as 'history people' instead of 'historical figures' or 'detect the object' instead of 'identify artifacts'. There are also minor errors in word formation, such as 'voluntary' used as a noun instead of 'volunteer'. Expanding your range to include more topic-specific terminology related to museums and history would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include incorrect article usage ('the British museum'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence fragments ('Right now, I am student'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the misuse of semicolons and commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for articles and verb forms will help improve accuracy.
