Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to inquire whether I may do volunteer work at your museum.
I am currently working on my final-year art thesis; therefore, having an unpaid job at any sort of art gallery would be beneficial to me. As the museum is near my home, it would be easier for me to come and work there and learn valuable insights from the monuments.
Being an art student, I will bring my painting skills to the workplace. I have had several painting workshops in the past and participated in the National Art Exhibition, where my painting won first place. I hope to share invaluable lessons from my expertise.
I am thrilled to join the work right away. But due to my morning routine at the university, I would be available in the evening from Monday through Thursday. Additionally, I prefer to take the weekend off to rewind.
Thank you so much for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Iqra Fatima

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain your motivation for volunteering, which is linked to your art thesis. You describe your relevant skills, specifically your painting expertise and competition success, and provide clear availability details. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a museum director. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, showing a clear purpose throughout the letter. You have fully satisfied the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific requirement of the prompt, which makes the structure easy to follow. You use cohesive devices effectively, such as 'therefore', 'additionally', and 'in the past', to link your sentences and paragraphs. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, and the flow of information is smooth and natural throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary that is appropriate for the context of a formal application. Phrases like 'inquire', 'valuable insights', 'invaluable lessons', and 'consideration' are used accurately. While the vocabulary is functional and clear, it could be further elevated to reach a higher band by incorporating more sophisticated collocations or less common lexical items related to museum work or professional volunteering. However, the current range is sufficient and precise for the task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The letter displays a good command of grammatical structures. You use a mix of simple and complex sentences effectively, such as the conditional structure 'it would be easier for me to come and work there' and the participial phrase 'Being an art student'. There are very few errors, and those present do not impede communication. Punctuation is generally accurate, and the sentence control is consistent throughout the response, reflecting a high level of grammatical accuracy.
