Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have addressed the purpose of the letter and provided relevant background regarding your skills, the response is incomplete; it cuts off abruptly in the final paragraph, failing to provide the required details about your availability. Because the task is not fully completed and the length requirement is not met, the response cannot be awarded a higher band. To improve, ensure you fully develop all three bullet points and check that your letter reaches the minimum length before concluding.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter shows a basic logical progression, with an introduction, a body paragraph, and an attempt at a final paragraph. However, the abrupt ending disrupts the overall flow. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However' and 'for instance', but they are somewhat limited. The paragraphing is appropriate for a letter format, but the lack of completion in the final section makes the overall structure feel disjointed. To improve, ensure that each paragraph is fully developed and that you use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'restoration and renovation specialist' and 'utilize'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'interest to join volunteer part-time position' (should be 'interest in joining a volunteer part-time position') and 'numbers of way' (should be 'a number of ways'). The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Focusing on correct preposition usage and pluralization will help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('help our local community' vs 'the local community', 'helpful museum' vs 'helpful to the museum') and issues with verb tense and agreement ('as I am retired' vs 'as I have retired'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the clarity of your writing. You should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly regarding articles and prepositions, to ensure your writing is more polished.
