Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I would like to express my interest for the vacancy of unpaid worker or to work as a volunteer at the museum.

At the outset, I have keen interest in the social activities which are fascinating me all the time to work for the welfare of the society. Additionally, working with other members not only enhance my coordination level but also polish team spirit ability.

Moreover, I am the member of National commerce college's NSS department who do work related to community well-being in which team cooperation and organising events are basic skill. However, currently I have assignments in which delineating personal experience in social welfare activities contains 70% grade of total.

Therefore, I eagerly want to work at the museum for which I would be available from Monday to Friday at 2PM afterwards.

Hope you considered me as a volunteer and would provide opportunity to be part of museum team.

Kind regards,

Ramam

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explain your motivation, describe your skills, and provide your availability. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention being a member of an NSS department, the connection between your academic assignments and the museum work is slightly unclear and could have been explained more naturally. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening 'Dear Sir' is slightly less standard than the requested 'Dear Sir or Madam'. Overall, the task is addressed, but the ideas could be expanded with more specific detail to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'At the outset', 'Additionally', and 'Moreover' to link your ideas. However, some of these transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly unnatural in context. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the flow between the second and third paragraphs is slightly disjointed due to the phrasing of the sentence regarding your college assignments. Improving the variety and naturalness of your linking words would enhance the overall coherence of the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'coordination', 'welfare', and 'delineating'. However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation that affect precision. For instance, 'fascinating me all the time' is not a natural way to express interest, and 'vacancy of unpaid worker' is slightly awkward. Some phrasing, such as 'polish team spirit ability', is also non-standard. While the meaning is generally clear, the vocabulary lacks the flexibility and natural control required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I have keen interest' (missing article), 'who do work' (subject-verb agreement), and 'Hope you considered me' (incorrect tense). Additionally, the sentence 'currently I have assignments in which delineating personal experience... contains 70% grade of total' is grammatically convoluted and difficult to follow. These errors occur regularly, though they do not completely impede communication. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve your accuracy.
