Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to write this letter and do this unpaid voluntary work at the museum because I think every free people should can do this work as this museum is part of our city so why can't we give or spare some time over looking after the museum and I have some time so in that time i can do part time voluntary of the museum.

If we are talking about skills or how would, I manage doing this voluntary I like to tell that I'm a very active person and also having the enthusiasm that, I can take care of the things and I'm responsible also for my given work that's why I think this kind of skills and activeness of mine will help here for the voluntary of the museum, and both the tings will done I will get the part time unpaid job and my time will also be consumed and will be invested on a right place rather then wasting time or roaming here and there.

So basically I will be available at evening 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at this time I'm free and can give some time over the voluntary work at museum and also I'll come to know about the ancient museum more and what people think of coming over the museum, what things they like of it, also I'll gain knowledge of the ancient people things and what amount of importance they carry, where they has used this and why. I hope you will consider me and give this beautiful opportunity to me. I'm looking forward for your reply.

Thankyou.

Yours Faithfull,

Dhruti

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining your motivation, describing your skills, and stating your availability. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks the professional tone expected in a formal letter. For instance, the explanation of why you want to volunteer is quite circular, focusing more on personal time management than on a genuine interest in the museum's mission. To improve, ensure your ideas are more focused and directly relevant to the context of a formal application.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the flow within paragraphs is often hindered by long, run-on sentences and a lack of precise cohesive devices. Phrases like 'If we are talking about' are overly conversational and do not serve as effective transitions. Additionally, the use of referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track the connection between your skills and the specific requirements of the museum. Using more formal linking words would improve the logical progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite repetitive and lacks the precision required for a formal application. You frequently use basic terms like 'things' and 'work' where more specific nouns would be appropriate. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'consumed' in the context of time and 'ancient people things'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated vocabulary related to volunteering and professional environments, and ensure your word choices are contextually accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly regarding sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. Many sentences are overly long and lack proper clause boundaries, such as 'I think every free people should can do this work'. You also struggle with verb tenses and prepositions, for example, 'what things they like of it' and 'where they has used this'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors impacts the overall readability and formal tone of the letter.
