Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to you because I wanted to show you my interest in working as a volunteer in the museum. I believe this is a heaven sent chance not only to do something for my community but also to gain an incredible experience.
if I talk a little bit about myself, I recently completed my education in the management studies and now pursuing further courses in the same field.
I feel delighted by being involved and interacted with different people as it gives me an opportunity to learn about distinct things in several ways. Additionally, I work as a retail crew member which requires skills like good communication, patience and helpful nature.
I claim that these qualities makes me a perfect match to work as a volunteer with you. On top of it, I feel over the moon when I help individuals in any possible way.
I am available to work as a volunteer every Tuesdays and Thursdays. I kindly request you to consider me to have as a volunteer there and feel free to call me for any further details.
Kind regards
Komal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You clearly state your motivation for volunteering, describe your relevant skills in retail and communication, and specify your availability. The tone is appropriate for a formal application. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could briefly mention a specific interest in the museum's exhibits or history to make your application more persuasive and tailored to the institution. Overall, the task requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure, moving from the purpose of the letter to personal background, skills, and finally availability. Paragraphing is used to separate these distinct ideas. However, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is slightly abrupt. Using more varied cohesive devices (e.g., 'Furthermore,' 'In addition to this,' 'Regarding my availability') would improve the flow. Some sentences are a bit disjointed, but the overall progression of information is clear and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'gain an incredible experience' and 'perfect match.' However, there are some informal or slightly unnatural choices, such as 'heaven sent chance' and 'over the moon,' which are better suited to casual conversation than a formal application letter. Additionally, there is a minor error in 'interacted with different people' (should be 'interacting'). Expanding your range to include more professional collocations would enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'I recently completed my education in the management studies' (remove 'the'), 'delighted by being involved and interacted' (should be 'interacting'), and 'these qualities makes me' (subject-verb agreement error: 'make'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions and articles in professional contexts.
