Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: the reason for volunteering, relevant skills, and availability. However, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the development of ideas. The points are addressed in a very brief, superficial manner. To reach a higher band, you need to expand on your motivations and provide more detail regarding your skills. For example, instead of simply stating you are a 'good painter,' you could describe how your specific knowledge of art history or restoration techniques would assist the museum staff. The brevity prevents a full development of the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter lacks proper paragraphing, which is essential for a formal letter. It is presented as a single block of text, making it difficult to follow the transition between the different requirements of the task. While there is a basic logical progression, the lack of cohesive devices (such as 'furthermore,' 'consequently,' or 'in addition') makes the writing feel disjointed. To improve, you should separate your introduction, body paragraphs (one for each bullet point), and conclusion. Using clear topic sentences and linking words will significantly improve the flow and structure of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is functional but quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'really useful,' 'good painter,' and 'good institution' lack the precision and variety expected at higher levels. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'joining this museum which would be pleasure for me,' which is grammatically awkward. To improve, you should aim for more sophisticated collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to museums or volunteering. For instance, instead of 'good,' use 'accomplished' or 'prestigious.' Expanding your range of vocabulary will help you express your ideas with greater clarity and impact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, including capitalization issues ('i' instead of 'I'), missing articles ('the voluntary work'), and run-on sentences. The sentence structure is predominantly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. For example, 'I am a good painter from the last 2 years even i have done a course' is poorly constructed and lacks correct punctuation. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structure, ensuring proper subject-verb agreement, and using a wider variety of complex structures, such as relative clauses or conditional sentences, while maintaining accuracy.
