Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explained your motivation for volunteering, highlighted your relevant skills as a team leader, and provided your availability. However, the development of these points is somewhat basic. For example, while you mention your communication skills, you could have elaborated on how these would specifically benefit museum visitors. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though the opening 'Dear manager' is slightly informal compared to the requested 'Dear Sir or Madam'. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are expanded with more detail and that the formal tone is maintained throughout the entire letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'Also' and 'But' to connect ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear. For instance, the transition between your skills and your availability could be smoother. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', 'In addition to this') to create a more natural progression of ideas throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms such as 'voluntary', 'communication skills', and 'schedule'. However, there are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'looing' instead of 'looking', 'voluntary' used as a verb instead of 'volunteer', and 'get people attention' instead of 'get people's attention'. These errors do not prevent understanding, but they do limit the range of vocabulary demonstrated. Focusing on correct word forms and collocations will help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('Hope you doing well'), missing articles ('history of our town'), and incorrect verb forms ('if i got'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the capitalization of 'i'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall fluency of your writing. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammar rules, especially verb tenses and the correct use of personal pronouns.
