Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter as of a recent part time voluntary opportunity at the museum and would like to know about the application process to apply for the same.
I recently completed my studies as an archeologists and right now I am in the phase of job hunting. But before I get into the field, I want to get some hands on experience.
In terms of skills I have learned how the historical things were used in the past and can also explain it in such a way that the new learners might feel more informative and easy to understand along with some great soft skills. Moreover how to handle ancients prototypes while moving them with safety and security.
According to my schedule, I can take some time out on weekends for the voluntary work at the museum.
Please let me know if anything else is required from my end.I would be more than happy to hear back from you.
Thank you for the time and consideration.
With Regards,
Devkumar

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly state your motivation for volunteering, describe your relevant background in archaeology, and specify your availability. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, your description of skills is slightly vague, using phrases like 'historical things' and 'ancients prototypes' rather than specific museum-related terminology. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully extended with more precise detail. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose of the communication is clear throughout the text.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'In terms of', which help the flow of ideas. However, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is a bit abrupt, and some sentences feel slightly disjointed. Paragraphing is used, but the overall progression could be smoother. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the relationship between sentences is more explicitly stated to guide the reader through your argument more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'voluntary opportunity', 'hands-on experience', and 'consideration'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'historical things' (which is too informal), 'ancients prototypes' (incorrect pluralization and adjective usage), and 'feel more informative' (which is logically incorrect). These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more specific professional terms would significantly enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully use some complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'as of a recent' (should be 'regarding'), 'archeologists' (should be 'archaeologist'), and 'moving them with safety and security' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are missing spaces after periods in several places, which affects the presentation. The errors are noticeable but do not impede overall communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and refining your use of prepositions and articles.
