Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to express my interest in part-time voluntary work at your museum.
In next summer, as I am going to join the Police foundations course, so I need voluntary work certification. As this art museum is one of the famous museum in the town, it would be really appreciated if you could allow me to do unpaid work. It would not only help me to gain the certification but also improve my skills.
I personally believe that this role would suits me as I have few skills and qualities which are necessary to perform these job duties. I am very patient and calm. I do not get hyper under pressure. I have a helpful nature. Without second thought ,I am always ready to help others.
I have a cooking classes in the evening at 6:00 pm so I would be available in the morning from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. I would like to have my weekends off for my personal commitments.
If you need any additional information please let me know. I am looking forward to hear from you.
Yours Sincerely,
Rimple Sharma

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explain your motivation for volunteering, describe relevant personal qualities such as patience and calmness, and provide specific availability. The tone is appropriate for a formal application. To reach a higher band, ensure that your reasons are slightly more developed; for instance, connecting your interest in the museum specifically to your future career goals would add depth. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets all requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a formal closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'not only... but also' and 'in addition', which help the flow. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the connection between sentences could be smoother in the second paragraph. Improving the variety of linking words would help create a more natural progression of ideas throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'voluntary work certification', 'personal commitments', and 'perform these job duties'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'in next summer' (should be 'next summer') and 'this role would suits me' (should be 'would suit me'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication or precision of less common lexical items that would be expected at a higher band level. Focusing on more precise collocations will enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'one of the famous museum' (should be 'museums'), 'I have a cooking classes' (should be 'I have cooking classes'), and 'looking forward to hear' (should be 'looking forward to hearing'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Paying closer attention to subject-verb agreement and gerund usage after specific phrases will improve your accuracy.
