Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear sir / Madam,
I hope you are doing well, I just knew that your museum is looking for part-time volunteering workers and I would like to do this work because I have a interest to know about historic things at the museum I like to visit museum since my childhood.
I have an experience to talk with customers in renowned car company, therefore I have good communication skills in order to talk with people who visit the museum. Moreover, I know how to manage workload in fast working environment because I also worked in a restaurant where speed plays a significant role.
Currently I am working in a multinational company from Monday to Thursday and I will be available for rest of the days. I feel very bored from Friday to Sunday because I am living alone, so I want some work on that particular days, so my time will go fast.
Yours sincerely,
Darshil

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain your interest in history, detail your relevant experience in customer service and restaurant work, and specify your availability for the weekend. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal application, although it could be slightly more professional. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands your motivation and suitability for the role. To reach a higher band, ensure that the opening and closing are consistently formal and that the purpose of the letter is stated more explicitly in the opening sentence.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each addressing a specific requirement of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'moreover' and 'therefore' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally slightly mechanical. For instance, the transition in the first paragraph could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas feels more natural rather than just following the bullet points strictly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'renowned', 'multinational', and 'significant role'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'I have a interest to know about historic things' (should be 'an interest in history') and 'my time will go fast' (which is slightly informal). While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the precision of your writing. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding overly simplistic phrasing when describing your personal motivations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I just knew that' (should be 'I have just learned that'), 'I have an experience to talk' (should be 'experience in talking'), and 'on that particular days' (should be 'on those particular days'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma splices in the first paragraph. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Increasing the variety of complex structures and proofreading for subject-verb agreement and pluralization will help improve your score.
