Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: the motivation for volunteering, relevant skills, and availability. The ideas are relevant, though the development is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of why you want to volunteer is clear, and the list of languages is a strong point. However, the tone is slightly informal for a formal application letter, and the structure could be more professional. To reach a higher band, ensure that the opening and closing are more formal and that the paragraphs are clearly separated to improve the overall presentation of your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is generally coherent, and the progression of ideas is logical. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'mainly because of' and 'as an individual who', to link your thoughts. However, the paragraphing is weak; the entire body of the letter is essentially one block of text. Using clear paragraph breaks for each bullet point would significantly improve the readability and structure of your response. Additionally, some transitions are a bit repetitive, and the punctuation, particularly regarding spacing after commas, needs more attention to ensure a smoother flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'multilingual', 'artifacts', and 'representations'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'voluntary staff' (usually 'volunteer') and 'environmental values' in the context of museum items, which is slightly unclear. There are also minor spelling and mechanical errors, such as 'regard's' and 'i' (lowercase). While these do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on more precise terminology for a professional setting would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully use complex sentences, there are frequent errors in punctuation and grammar, such as missing spaces after commas, inconsistent capitalization, and run-on sentences. For example, the sentence starting with 'As an individual...' is quite long and lacks proper punctuation. While these errors rarely impede the overall meaning, they are frequent enough to affect the score. Improving your control over sentence boundaries and basic punctuation will help you achieve a higher band.
