Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: the reason for volunteering, relevant skills, and availability. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited. For instance, the explanation of why you want to volunteer is brief and lacks depth. While you mention being interested in history, expanding on how this aligns with your personal goals or the museum's mission would have provided a more comprehensive response. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though some phrasing is slightly informal or repetitive. To improve, ensure that each point is fully elaborated with supporting details to demonstrate a more thorough engagement with the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Also', and 'Hence' to connect ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. The transition between sentences could be smoother; for example, the connection between your summer vacation and your desire to work at the museum is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that ideas flow more naturally from one to the next would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You rely on simple descriptors and common phrases, such as 'perfect place' and 'good communication skills'. While these are accurate, they do not demonstrate a wide range of vocabulary. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'say for me to commute' (likely intended 'safe') and 'doing some helping'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise, topic-specific vocabulary related to museum work or professional volunteering, and focus on using collocations more accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
Your writing shows a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'I am having my summer vacation' (which should be 'I am on my summer vacation') and 'This place in town' (missing a verb). Additionally, there are issues with punctuation and sentence fragments, such as 'As other days I have my other job and classes.' These errors do not prevent communication, but they do indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of sentence construction and verb tenses.
