Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all three bullet points of the task. You clearly explain your motivation for volunteering, describe your background as a history student, and state your availability. However, the development of ideas is somewhat simplistic. For example, while you mention 'historical skills,' this is vague and could be better supported with specific examples of what you can actually do, such as cataloging or assisting with tours. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though the opening 'get permission' is slightly informal. To improve, ensure your ideas are more fully elaborated to demonstrate a deeper engagement with the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'If you give me permission,' which assist in linking ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. The use of punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods, which disrupts the visual flow of the text. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your paragraphing is consistently applied to separate distinct ideas more effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your intentions clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific terms like 'voluntary work,' 'ancient items,' and 'history student.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'get permission' instead of 'apply for a volunteer position' and 'historical skills' which is not a standard collocation. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'the history of the ancestors,' which sounds unnatural. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise professional terminology would significantly enhance your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with article usage ('a student in the college'), subject-verb agreement, and capitalization ('i' instead of 'I'). Punctuation is also a recurring issue, with inconsistent spacing and unnecessary commas. While these errors do not prevent communication, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the letter. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring that your sentences are constructed with correct punctuation and standard English syntax.
