Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to express my interest in voluntary work at the museum.
To begin with, I am fascinating regarding work with the historical things where I can gain historical knowledge about past people, and I am also an archaeology student. Recently, my school offered a vacation on behalf of some construction work for 2 weeks. Therefore, I was considering working somewhere where I can utilize my time wisely.
Furthermore, I am an intelligent person, and along with a keen interest in my field of study, I would love to assist people and also want to guide them. By doing this, I will get abundant information about my studies; not only this it will make me an experienced person.
Finally, about my availability I am free anytime and wiling to work in any shift.
Thank you for your attention to this. Waiting for receiving response.
Yours faithfully,
Afroza.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the reason for volunteering, relevant skills, and availability. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention being an archaeology student, the explanation of why you want to volunteer is a bit repetitive and lacks specific detail about what you hope to contribute to the museum. The description of your skills is also quite general; claiming to be an 'intelligent person' is subjective and does not clearly demonstrate the practical skills a museum might value. To reach a higher band, provide more concrete examples of how your studies or personal attributes would benefit the museum's operations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use basic cohesive devices like 'To begin with,' 'Furthermore,' and 'Finally' to transition between ideas. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes slightly disjointed. For example, the sentence 'not only this it will make me an experienced person' is grammatically awkward and disrupts the logical progression. Additionally, the closing sentence 'Waiting for receiving response' is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring that sentences connect more smoothly would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. You rely on some repetitive or slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'historical things' and 'abundant information.' The word choice 'fascinating' is used incorrectly; you should use 'fascinated' to describe your own feelings. While you attempt to use some topic-specific language related to your studies, the overall range is limited. To improve, try to use more precise collocations and avoid overly simplistic descriptors like 'intelligent person' in a professional context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'I am fascinating regarding work,' 'vacation on behalf of some construction work,' and 'Waiting for receiving response.' There are also issues with preposition usage and sentence fragments. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement, correct prepositional phrases, and ensuring complete sentence structures will significantly improve your accuracy.
