Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Director,
I am writing to show my interest in the position of volunteering in a museum you posted online in our local group last Friday.
I have been visiting this museum since I was young. I have known it very well from beginning to now. It is kind of part of my childhood. I personally would love to help others to learn about it when they visit the museum.
I have completed my bachelors degree in arts and I have been in this field for five years. My experience with paintings and and artists will help me communicate with others to show our art museum.
I am usually free on weekends. I have spare time after shifts in the evenings so I would be able to volunteer at least 4 days a week. I can join from Monday if it is possible.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Sonam Prajapati

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explain your motivation for volunteering, highlight your relevant educational background, and provide specific availability. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening salutation 'Dear Director' is slightly less conventional than the requested 'Dear Sir or Madam'. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the requirements of the task. To improve, ensure that you fully adhere to the provided instructions regarding the opening and closing, and try to expand slightly more on how your specific skills would benefit the museum's daily operations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific requirement of the task, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'I have been', 'I have completed', and 'I am usually' to link sentences. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate a wider variety of linking words and transition phrases (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', 'In addition to this') to improve the flow between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'voluntary', 'bachelors degree', and 'field'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'show our art museum' which is slightly unnatural in this context. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the variety and precision required for higher bands. To improve, try to use more sophisticated collocations and avoid repeating simple verbs like 'have' or 'show'. Focus on using more precise terminology related to museum work or professional volunteering.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most of your sentences are clear and grammatically correct, which ensures that communication is not impeded. There are a few minor errors, such as the double 'and' in 'paintings and and artists' and the slightly awkward phrasing 'from beginning to now'. Your control of basic grammar is good, but there is limited use of more complex grammatical structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice, which would demonstrate a higher level of proficiency. Focus on proofreading to catch small slips and aim to vary your sentence structure further.
